On July 06, 2023, the Méliès Café Brasserie in Saint Etienne (42) hosted the prize-giving ceremony for the 3rd Prix Horizon art competition, organized by Piscines Desjoyaux.
Building on the success of the previous 2 editions, and always in search of novelty, this year’s competition was open to design and artistic creation. Participants had to invent their own pool-related object, integrating a notion of sustainability and eco-responsibility. An object to stroll around the pool, an object to play with or an object to enjoy….
A look back at the prize-giving ceremony for the 4 winners, attended by Aurélie Voltz, President of the jury and Director of the MAMC in Saint Etienne, and Jean Louis Desjoyaux, CEO of the Piscines Desjoyaux group.

The winner of the PRIX DU JURY NATIONAL is ” Faubourg Memphis “, created by Lydia Guerre.
The aim of this project was to create a fun, multifunctional and, of course, eco-designed object. The work focused on the object’s modularity, in order to find different functions for it to “stroll” around the pool. Faubourg Memphis is a modular, playful object designed with sustainable materials.

THE LA LOIRE JURY PRIZE goes to Lilou Gaxieu for her work Rollatellas.
Rollatelas is a pool mattress for use in and out of the water. It consists of a set of flattened spherical cork modules, woven together by a coloured, waterproof cord.
This relaxing object can be used to accompany any stroll around the pool. It can be modulated, folded and extended as required. Inspired by massaging carpets, car seat covers made of wooden beads or fisherman’s nets, it’s a tool for relaxation.

THE UPCYCLING PRIZE goes to Emma Faury-Graziani and Thomas Dutoit for their work A VELA.
A Vela is the result of a collaboration and questioning around the transformation of used nautical objects into reusable ones.
The proposed seat is designed from a wreck and the used sails of a boat recovered from Saint-Victor-sur-Loire, a nautical base located 12 km from Saint-Étienne. The sails are broken down, sewn and woven together to create a seat that is strong, comfortable, colorful and durable. A Vela is a 360° experience of up-cycling through the territory, through the resources available there, but also through experimentation with materials. In three words: valorization, creation and dissemination.

THE PUBLIC’S PRIZE went to Pierre Strepponi for Bomple, an aquatic construction game.
Strictly speaking, BOMPLE is not an indivisible physical object. Rather, it’s a set with a multitude of objects and tools that enable you to build different universes through an inflatable base. In fact, the BOMPLE project is a construction game that invites young and old alike to manipulate and create their own monster, castle, ship, character, game, and so on.
